THE SECRET OF HAPPINESS & YOGA

When we practice yoga we give ourselves permission to be playful, unrestricted and free- just as we were when we were a child. Yoga is all about the practice of finding what feels good for you and only you and moving in ways that make you feel the best.

Yoga connects movement and meditation. When we bring our mind, body and soul all together, through asanas, through dhyana and through  pranayama (breath). All of this together helps bring us into the present moment so we can experience happiness, achievement, peace, and connection to self, all together. It is not right to practice Yoga like an exercise for muscle toning or bodybuilding. Yoga is not just about the postures and asanas that make your body flexible. Yoga, of course, provides good health, but that’s because of how a Yoga practitioner can manipulate his/her system to rise to a different level. We all understand the saying “Health is Wealth”, but it is only some of us who understand that “Health is Happiness”. A happy body is always equal to a happy life.

Yoga releases Happiness Hormones

DOPAMINE:

A hormone and neurotransmitter known as the reward and motivational system of the body. A vigorous vinyasa practice, the weight-bearing components that yoga creates, as well as relaxation techniques such as yoga nidra and meditation, can boost dopamine levels by increasing cardiorespiratory output.

OXYTOCIN:

Oxytocin is a hormone that acts as a neurotransmitter. It plays an important role in reproductionBy breathing deeply during yoga the hormone oxytocin begins to increase throughout the body. This creates the essence of happiness.

SEROTONIN:

A neurotransmitter that influences mood and behaviour. A variety of studies have shown that consistent practice of yoga, meditation, prayer and relaxation increases serotonin levels significantly. This further supports the exceptionally powerful way yoga influences our mood and increases the need for well-being.

VAGUS NERVE AND YOGA:

Highly important is also the connection of the Vagus Nerv and Yoga. The dispersed effects of yoga practice can all be linked to a common Mechanism: the functioning of the vagus nerve which connects the brain (and therefore the mind) to the body. Even a short practice of yoga poses may positively affect the vagal tone, making us feel more satisfied and happy.

Some of the typical asanas recommended for increasing happiness include the following:

URDHA MUKHA SVANASANA: Upward Dog Urdhva Mukha Svanasana is a heart-opening pose that works the entire body while also helping the positivity and joy in your heart shine through.

USHTRASANA: Camel Pose The camel pose is an instant mood booster as it opens up the heart and brings forth positive emotions and joyful feelings.

BADDHAKONASANA: Butterfly Pose The butterfly pose helps nourish the hips and ensures a good emotional release, thus making us feel happy.

The latter also is recommended to boost libido. Why is yoga important in today’s lifestyle?

People nowadays suffer more stress, anxiety, and also insomnia which is mainly due to improper lifestyle and physical exercise. Therefore, we need methods and techniques for the attainment of health and harmony; in this respect, yoga acts as an aid to one’s health. Furthermore, we are all so busy with our day-to-day work that we are less likely to give time to our bodies. Also, this pandemic shows us that it’s important to take care of your health and finding time to practice yoga or exercise a few minutes a week can work wonders for your health.

The word “depression” is ubiquitous in our lives. We suffer from instability of our minds which makes us susceptible to a lot of factors that easily drive us into depression. Depression cannot find its place in your life when Yoga has already taken its place! The energy imbalance in your body is the reason behind most of your ailments. Once you figure how to sort that out with Yoga, no ailment is incurable. The disease that originates from within can only be cured from within!

Practising Yoga releases hormones that make you feel positive and happier. It controls the stress hormone and reduces anxiety.

Statistics:

90% OF YOGA PRACTITIONERS SAID THAT YOGA HELPS THEM RELEASE TENSION AND INCREASE HAPPINESS

69% REPORT A POSITIVE INCREASE IN TEMPERAMENT AND MOOD

ON AVERAGE, YOGA DECREASES ANXIETY LEVELS BY 40%.

DEPRESSION LEVELS DECREASE BY APPROXIMATELY 50% AFTER JUST THREE MONTHS OF YOGA PRACTICE.

According to a new review of research about good moods and physical activity, people who do yoga even once a week or for as little as 10 minutes a day tend to be more cheerful and happy than those who never exercise.

Yoga, of course, provides good health, but that’s because of how a Yoga practitioner can manipulate his/her system to rise to a different level. We all understand the saying “Health is Wealth”, but it is only some of us who understand that “Health is Happiness”. A happy body is always equal to a happy life.
